Waterloo Regional Airport To Celebrate 10 Year Partnership With American Airlines

Watch a recap of the celebration here.

The community is invited to celebrate 10 years of partnership between the Waterloo Regional Airport and American Airlines at a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception on Wednesday, April 27 from 4:30-6:30pm.  The event, hosted by the City of Waterloo and Experience Waterloo, will take place inside the airline passenger terminal building at 2790 Livingston Lane, Waterloo, Iowa.

“As we prepare to kickoff National Tourism Week (May 1-7), we reflect on a historic rebound from the pandemic with Waterloo earning the highest hotel/motel collections in our cities history and highest demand rate that we’ve ever seen,” says Tavis Hall, Executive Director of Experience Waterloo. “With a rejuvenated Convention Center sparking interest of conference and event organizers and the much-anticipated opening of the Theme Park this summer, Waterloo is positioned well to capitalize on increased interest in our destination. The Waterloo Regional Airport has undergone a long-delayed and necessary branding update with strategic investment to increase brand awareness, putting the Cedar Valley’s scheduled air service in position to not just anticipate but meet the increased demand by passengers as we continue to build a visitor-fueled economy.”

“Waterloo’s partnership with American Airlines is critical to our business community and regional economy.  We all depend on daily air service to keep our economy growing and to keep this area not just competitive, but thriving,” says Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart. “It is my hope that Waterloo’s partnership will continue with American Airlines well into the future as we see American continue to provide additional domestic and international connectivity at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport – ORD.”

“Since American Airlines started in Waterloo in early April, 2012, the City of Waterloo and the Waterloo Regional Airport has spent millions of dollars on upgraded snow removal equipment, and both airfield infrastructure for new aircraft taxiways and improved runways; in addition to physical improvements to many current aircraft hangars; have executed long-term agreements for privately owned aircraft storage hangars; and, have made minor improvements to the airline passenger terminal – with more in the near-term future – all to provide an improved airport facility for both our airfield tenants in addition to our airline passengers,“ says Airport Director Keith Kaspari.

While we have come a long way in 10-Years, yet City and Airport Officials recognize that we still have a long way to go to get ALO to the position that will continue to provide an excellent airport and travel experience for our tenants and passengers.

The Grow Cedar Valley Ambassadors will celebrate with a ribbon cutting at 5:00 followed by brief comments from Airport Officials, and Others.

No RSVP or MASK is required, yet airport officials are requesting all attendees to park their vehicle in the passenger parking lot whereby parking is FREE for the first 3-Hours.
