The Waterloo Community Foundation is proud to announce the award of the first-ever EAA 227 Young Pilot’s Scholarship to a local aspiring pilot. Established to support students in their pursuit of a private pilot’s license, this scholarship aims to address the current national pilot shortage by fostering local talent. The inaugural recipient was awarded this summer, a $1,000 award to aid his flight training journey. He is completing his private pilot’s license at Livingston Aviation in Waterloo and has been an EAA Young Eagles Student.
The EAA 227 Young Pilot’s Scholarship is open to eligible candidates enrolled in accredited pilot training programs at Waterloo Airport, Independence Airport, Oelwein Airport, or Waverly Airport. Up to five awards may be granted each year. Paul Wallace, President of EAA Chapter 227, stated, “We hope this scholarship will both incentivize and assist our local youth who want to achieve their dreams of becoming professional pilots”.
The EAA 227 Young Pilot’s Scholarship is a testament to the chapter’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of aviators. Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply online throughout the year at https://wloocommunityfoundation.org/scholarships/#career-specific
